A Weekend of Proscrastination and Productivity

My weekend started off with a great night with a few friends. Coincidentally, I had dinner with 4 people I went to High School with back in New Jersey who are now out here in San Diego. We went to the Starlight Lounge- great vibe and scrumdiddilyumptious food! Afterwards we went out dancing to a place called Bar Dynamite. Kind of cheese crowd but good music- all hip-hop and R&B hits from the 90’s. Hanging out with people from High School and listening to the tunes that took us through those years. Dancing for me is also so therapeutic- don’t really get to shake what my momma gave me too much these days. Three drinks later (3 drinks all night actually- I was a good girl) and two toe blisters later I was happy to go home and go to bed.

Saturday proved to be a little different. Have you ever have those days where you’re so bored out of your mind you think you’re going to lose it? I couldn’t think of anything to do and even when I did- I didn’t want to do it?!? I think I watched more HGTV that day than I ever could have imagined…Oh- and Anthony Bourdain of course. Maybe I had more fun than I thought. I was also supposed to be working on a project for a college course I’m taking. Yes- I’m “back in school”. This’ll make 8 years of college for me- Jen Van Wilder.

After a tv induced coma, I suddenly got a spark of inspiration. I’ve had 3 blank canvases in my possession for years- they have even made the trip from NJ to CA. My sister came with me to Michael’s while she was out here in December to help pick out paint colors. (The two of us indecisive chicks in Michael’s paint aisle FOREVER- priceless!) So I finally started to paint. I’m working on some Rothko-esque paintings. Not completely original but in line with my lost art skills. So I’ll post pics of them when they’re completed.

I also looked into maybe taking some Encaustic Painting classes. I love the way encaustic paintings look. I was on etsy.com looking for some gift items and stumbled upon some cool artist that does all encaustic creations. A certain someone might be getting one as a birthday gift soon!

Sunday-
“He’s Just Not that Into You”…with Joanna. I was pleasantly surprised! What a funny and delightful movie. I think both girls and guys could relate to it. And then I cooked Chicken Marsala for my man for his return home from his wild weekend in Vegas. Last but not least, what better to end an interesting weekend than with a Lost marathon- my other obsession besides Pomeranian's, Anthony Bourdain, HGTV, unpursued hobbies and books, and reading endless celebrity gossip. I need to shape up or ship out- which I hope will partly be the inspiration for this blog series. Yikes. Gotta go! Reminder to self (make a list next time of numerous New Year’s Resolutions I should “think” about doing- I know…a little late)…. ☺

So my second day of OR is over.  For any of you who don't know what OR is, it's a retail trade show that showcases any retailer you might find in EMS, REI, or your local sporting goods store.  It's pretty cool if you're in to that stuff- snow shoeing, hiking, summiting, traveling, camping, staring at the sun with polarized sunglasses...you get the point.

I'm going out to dinner with my co-workers tonight at P.F. Changs- last time was a digestive disaster for me but it tasted so good I'm ready for the challenge again.

I'm working hard on getting some pro-deals for industry discounts- not only do I love a bargain but it also scores brownie points with my man!

I'm off to relax a little before le diner!

This whole blog this has got me in a tizzy (wow- I sound like my grandma).  BUT, being a woman of certain technological capabilities, I am determined to figure out the whole science of a blog.  I've recently come to a realization that I haven't written in any of my journals for a long time and that I'm a pretty damn fast typer (minus the 3 glasses of wine I've already consumed tonight).  Maybe it's time to start exploring my thoughts, ambitions and dreams- and what the hell, let everyone else in on it.  How exciting and scary at the same time!

My cousin Michelle has an awesome blog called Cicada Daydream that I must say has greatly inspired me!  She is a mom and a business entrepreneur who seems to be taking off as we speak.  I think it's amazing that she can balance a home, husband, kids, and still find time to run her own business and keep up with her blog!  Michelle, you rock!

So- here is my first official entry from a hotel room in Salt Lake City.  I'm away on business and very much looking forward to my few moments alone to gather some much needed thoughts.  Cheers!
